NIMH Qualified Medical Herbalist
About Me
My name is Davina Hopkinson and I practice herbal medicine in the beautiful county of Northumberland.
I gained my degree in Herbal Medicine at Lincoln University, graduating in 2006. A Herbal Medicine degree is a challenging and in depth qualification, involving not only a deep understanding of the plants, their properties and their medicinal uses but also the study of anatomy & physiology, pathophysiology, psychology, nutrition and clinical examination. In addition I completed 500 hours of supervised clinical training.
National Institute of Medical Herbalists
I am a member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists (N.I.M.H.), established in 1864, it is the largest body of herbal practitioners practicing in the UK.
As a member of NIMH I must be fully insured, follow their strict code of ethics and take part in a mandatory programme of continuing professional development.
Spreading the "Herbal Word"
As well as practicing Herbal Medicine I like to spread the “herbal word” by giving talks, leading herbal walks and organising herbal workshops - teaching people how to make their own medicines from garden and hedgerow plants.
I also run a Potion Club and Herbal Treasure Hunts for children which take place at Dilston Physic Garden - a great space for children to enjoy some fun activities.
New to the Physic Garden is the Junior Herbalist Club - you can find further details on the workshop page.
